Maximum overdrive rules!!!
Okay, so tonight I did something that I have never done before. I went to a monster truck show. I know it is kind of a rednecky, white trashy kind of thing to do... but I had a good reason. We took our students, and it was just as much fun to watch ten kids who have been at each others throats for the last couple of weeks... open up, let loose and have a good time with each other. Just what the doctor ordered. The show was just okay until the second half when they brought out the shell of a school bus and several junk cars and lined them up. It was time for the freestyle part of the show. "Lone Eagle" came out first... a Dodge ram painted like the American flag. He did a few jumps and then flirted with the idea of jumping over the junk car heap. He was just teasing us! Then came time for Maximum Overdrive. As he jumped around the arena, we all wondered along with the announcer... "Will he be the first to try the school bus... let's tell him what we want ladies and gentlemen. Say it with me... THE BUS...THE BUS." He lined up with it several times and then chickened out at the last moment. Finally, the time had come. It was now or never. There were still five other trucks that had to do their thing. For "Maximum Overdrive"... it was time to poop or get off the pot. He lined up with it... revved his engine a couple times... started towards the heap slowly. It looked like he was going to lose his nerve and go around again. And then suddenly... he gave it hell!! The engine noise was deafening. He hit the heap... the front end went up in the air. The monster truck was in the air... vertical!!Just Hanging over the school bus for what seemed like several minutes. The crowd started to jump to their feet. by the time we were all standing, "Maximum Overdrive" came smashing down on the bus... still vertical!! The front wheels came down, and the truck bounced over the other side of the bus, almost tipping over. The crowd cheered and "Maximum Overdrive" came sliding to a stop. He sped around the arena and took a victory drive in front of the grand stand. waving to an adoring crowd. No matter what else happened for the rest of the show, nothing beat that moment. "Maximum Overdrive" was the king. He had us at "Hello... school bus." So... call me redneck, but I had one hell of a good time.

Monster trucks should be enjoyed in moderation. I, too, have been known to enjoy them once a decade.
